Why Supporting Small Businesses Matters More Than Ever

Why Supporting Small Businesses Matters More Than Ever

As UK Small Business Week begins, it's the perfect opportunity to shine a spotlight on the thousands of independent businesses that form the backbone of our local communities. When people think about a small business, they often see a shop, a website or a social media page. What they don't always see are the people behind it – the early mornings, late nights, worries, celebrations, challenges and determination that go into keeping that business alive.

Small businesses aren't backed by huge corporate budgets or national marketing campaigns. Most are run by individuals or families who have invested their time, energy and savings into creating something they genuinely care about.

At The Forgotten Toy Shop, supporting families through play has always been at the heart of what we do. From traditional toys and games to nostalgic favourites that bring back childhood memories, every product we stock has been carefully chosen because we believe in the value of imagination, creativity and quality family time.

But like every small business, we simply couldn't do what we do without the support of our customers.

Supporting Small Doesn't Always Mean Spending Money

Of course, making a purchase is always appreciated, but there are many other ways you can support a small business that cost absolutely nothing.

You can:

  • Recommend a business to friends and family
  • Share their social media posts
  • Leave a review online
  • Comment on and engage with their content
  • Tag friends who might be interested
  • Tell others about a positive experience you've had

These simple actions may only take a few seconds, but they can make a huge difference.

When you share a post, leave a review or recommend a business, you're helping more people discover them. You're helping them reach customers they may never otherwise have found.

The Difference Your Support Makes

Every order placed with a small business is celebrated.

Every positive review is read and appreciated.

Every recommendation means more than you might realise.

For many independent businesses, a single customer recommendation can lead to multiple future customers. A single social media share can introduce hundreds of new people to a business. A kind review can give someone the confidence to make their first purchase.

These moments matter.

Keeping Our High Streets and Communities Alive

Small businesses help create character and personality within our towns and villages. They provide unique products, personal service and a sense of community that simply can't be replicated by large corporations.

When you choose to support independent businesses, you're helping to keep local communities thriving. You're supporting local jobs, local families and local dreams.

A Thank You From The Forgotten Toy Shop

As a small independent business, we'd like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported us on our journey.

Whether you've visited our shop in Edwalton, placed an order online, shared one of our posts, recommended us to a friend or simply followed along on social media, you've helped us continue doing what we love.

Your support means far more than you know.

This UK Small Business Week, we'd encourage everyone to think about the small businesses they love and find one small way to support them. Whether that's making a purchase, sharing a post, leaving a review or simply telling a friend about a business you enjoy, every action makes a difference.

Together, we can help ensure that independent businesses continue to be heard, continue to grow and continue to be part of the communities we all cherish.

And while you're here, we'd love to hear about the small businesses that you think deserve a little extra support. Leave a comment below and give them a shout-out – let's celebrate the amazing independent businesses that make our communities special.

Thank you for supporting small.
